Hidden gems: underrated shawarma in Romania
Updated: November 2026The spots the neighbourhood doesn't want you to know about. Hidden gems in Romania: high scores, few votes, zero hype — the kind of shawarma you keep secret. We surface them from community votes (and we're a little sorry about the queues that follow).
How we score
The Shaorma Score is the average of the community's verdicts — not a critic's opinion. Each review says how it was, from Poor to Excellent, and the score is their average on a scale of 5. Recent reviews and those after a visit verified with Shaorma Pass (3 times) weigh more. With few reviews, the score is pulled toward the city's average, so three enthusiastic opinions can't make a 5. In the ranking, between close scores the place with more reviews comes first: we order by how certain the score is, not just the number.

What counts as a "hidden gem"?
A spot with a high Shawarma Score but still under the radar — either few votes or carrying the hidden-gem badge. Quality without a queue, for now.
Are these places hard to find?
Sometimes, yes — in a petrol station or down a side street. That's why the list exists: get straight to them without wandering.
